ALBERT BICHOT 2016 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Rouge 'Les Malconsorts' (Burgundy, FR)

This wine, from this place is why I moved to Burgundy in 1985.  The BICHOT family hired me off the streets of Beaune.  They allowed me to work at this wine property of theirs called: DOMAINE DU CLOS FRANTIN.  It is one of the most remarkable spots on the wine planet.  The walls to the property are across the path from the greatest Grand Cru vineyards in the world.  Echezeaux, Grands Echezeaux, La Romanee & the others!  The Premier Cru 'Les Malconsorts' borders these vineyards.  Yikes!  'Les Malconsorts' became my wine of choice from the domaine while working for the Bichot family.

"Les Malconsorts" is an exceptional Premier Cru from Vosne-Romanée. This jewel of a 'Climat' (vineyard place) is located immediately adjacent to some mythical plots. As the crow flies, Romanée-Conti is less than 400 metres away and Richebourg less than 600!

This wine expresses the exceptional character of a great terroir combined with a great grape variety. Its fine, complex nose features notes of red and black fruit (cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant) combined with delicate nuances of oak and subtle hints of spices. On the palate, this wine's smooth, full-bodied texture is supported by elegant tannic structure. An exceptional, classy wine that is endowed with remarkable length.
On the palate, all the crispiness of Pinot Noir with very pleasing, smooth, mouth-filling tannic texture.
