AVELEDA 2023 Alvarinho 'Solos de Granito' (Minho, Portugal)

From the Vinho Verde region of Portugal comes this 100% Alvarinho (aka Albarino) that is rating very highly across the board. It highlights the Granite rocks that make up the growing region. Granite, and Igneous rock, is poor in nutrients, high in acidity, and has very little water retention. This causes the roots of the grape vine to struggle. Grape vines love to struggle. The more the vines work for their nutrients, the richer and more concentrated the fruit is, which you can taste in the glass. Expect mineral notes and an "exuberant, fresh aromatic profile."
