BARAO DE VILAR 2016 Colheita Port 'Statement' (500ml) (Douro, Portugal)

The new vintage of a store favorite has arrived now!  

No tasting of Portugal can be complete without a drop of Port wine.  This one is a ‘Colheita’, or often referred to as a vintage Tawny.  One sip and you may be hooked.  Many people do get hooked on this particular Port.  So, to explain Port simply is difficult.  Here goes: fermenting red wine arrested midway through its fermentation by the addition of brandy.  There Ya have it.  Port & Tawny Port in particular is sublime.  Its flavors of toasted nuts, brown sugar and vanilla combined with a texture of silk.  This being a 2016 Colheita (Vintage) that means that all the grapes used to make this wine came from the vintage of 2016.
