A dry white wine of 50% Pošip, 20% Debit, 20% Maraština (aka Rukatac), 10% Trbjan. Try saying that ten times fast... if at all.
This stunning dry white wine is from the Peljesac peninsula, Dalmatia, Croatia. Basina is named after a small local region in Dalmatia. It is a very small region in part of a village. The name comes from an old Illyric settlement at that location, dating back almost 3,000 years. The younger generation chose this name to emphasize that these wines showcase the truly ancient winegrowing traditions in this part of the world.
Basina Bjanko is true coastal wine in a bottle. The vines grow on sandy soils with more wind from the valley, delivering a much brighter expression of Pošip with more lifted aromatics and acidity than is found on Korčula. This, blended with the floral and the ancient Adriatic grape, Maraština (aka Rukatac), along with the underappreciated coastal grape, Debit, it creates a beautiful Dalmatian white, bursting in synphony with popping sunshine, bright freshness and lively citrus acidity; Delicate Adriatic herbs, early-picked pear, and briny minerality deliver the finish.
