CHAMPAGNE ROGER COULON NV Premier Cru Extra Brut 'Herie-Hodie' (Champagne, FR)

Another great family wine house that is certified organic.  This is a ninth-generation producer with 109 various parcels of Premier Cru designation vineyards with a total of 11 Hectares (16 acres planted).  16 acres of vineyards (40-60 years old) will keep a family quite busy!

“Heri – Hodie” that figures on the label loosely means: ‘Yesterday & Today’ – a fantasy name for this wine. 

Allow me to share that this blend of 60% & 40% Pinot Noir is a classic blend of the two grape varietals that are the backbone of all things Champagne.  Judicious use of the Reserve wine(s), or ‘solera’ is the key to the success of this wine.  I feel that the winemaker has created & ensured a balance between harmony, elegance, minerality & purity.  Unique.

Disgorged July 2023.  After primary fermentation, the wine is stored on its lees (sediment) for a minimum of three years before disgorgement.  Dosage is less than 3g./L – that makes this Champagne an ‘Extra Brut’.  Please take a moment to judge the effervescence in this wine, because this producer is renown for bottling his Champagne with less… bubbles!
