CHATEAU DE JAVERNAND 2022 Chiroubles 'Indigene' (Beaujolais, France)

'Indigene' or indigenous is a reference to the Gamay clones naturally inherent at this property.  The yeast is also indigenous to the property having been cultivated for hundreds of years.  This is 100% Gamay from the storied village of Chiroubles within the Beaujolais region of Southern Burgundy.  I spent a lot of time here making wine thanks to the owner friend, Pierre Fourneau.  I learned about carbonic maceration (whole cluster fermentation) at this property, and what it brings to the final wine, especially when it comes to the Crus Beaujolais.  The Crus Beaujolais are the wines from the ten 'best' villages where the Beaujolais wines excel.  

Fruity, fruity and more fruity is a wonderful oversimplification.  Gamay (grape varietal) is at its finest in these villages and Chiroubles is the most bucolic corner of the region.
