DOMAINE DIDIER DAGUENEAU 2019 'Silex' 1.5L (Loire, FR)

Silex almost needs no introduction because it has very quickly joined the pantheon of the world's great white wines. From its first vintage in 1985, Didier has done everything to carry it high. This is Sauvignon Blanc from Pouilly-Fumee, in the Loire Valley of France, where flinty stoney soils make for a unique white wine - some of the best in the world. With this 2019, "Silex" by Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau climbs another notch on the ladder of excellence. There is a nose that is as pure, deep and subtle as ever, with notes of orchard fruits, citrus zest with chalky minerality, and flinty with smoky nuances, enhanced by a freshness of eucalyptus. The palate shows a little more flesh than usual, the acidities that are almost too incisive today require a few more years to fully melt and make Silex the unique and masterful balance that we know it for.
