EL MONTANISTA 2024 'Corte de Blancas' (San Juan, Argentina)

What an exciting wine. This is a blend of Torrontés Sanjuanino, Torrontés Mendocino, Malvasia, Maticha from a high-altitude vineyard in the Valle de Calingasta region of San Juan, Argentina. 

This vineyard sits 1500m above sea level. Vines are 80 years old. Here, they use low intervention wine-making techniques to let this gorgeous terroir shine through. They destem and let the grapes macerate on their skin as spontaneous fermentation takes place. The grapes are never crushed, rather only free run juice is taken to concrete to age for 7 months before bottling. A slight veil of flor develops during this phase, lending layers of flavor. 

Expect flavors of fresh lemon & lemon zest, alpine herbs, and slight biscuity aromas. Mineral driven and crunchy - this is a fun find.
