GUY CHARLEMAGNE 2015 Blanc des Blancs Extra Brut Grand Cru 'Les Coulmets' (Champagne, France)

Here is another great example of the ‘grower-producer’, meaning all the grapes are grown on their vineyards, harvested & a wine produced from the estate fruit only.  This is a fifth-generation story now since 1892, with two sisters firmly in charge of the current destiny.  The property is comprised of 15 Hectares including this single vineyard expression of 100% Chardonnay from a Grand Cru vineyard called ‘Les Coulmets’. 

Another astonishing aspect of this wine and its elaboration is the time in the cellar in its temporary bottle.  2015 ‘Les Coulmets’ rests on its lees (sediment) for a period of four years before disgorging that same lees (sediment) and introducing the dosage (liqueur).  That extended period of time in the bottle in contact with its sediment develops complexity in the finished wine.
