MOUNT FISHTAIL 2023 Sauvignon Blanc ‘Sur Lie’ (Marlborough, New Zealand)

MOUNT FISHTAIL is seeking to forge new paths within the New Zealand Sauv Blanc catagory with this wine. They are presenting a product that is different than the 300+ other NZ SB's on the market.  To do so, they employ the method of 'sur lie' - the same as that employed in Sancerre and Bordeaux and that makes the world of difference, qualitatively. In this mehod, the fermented wine is left to age on its lees - the dead yeast cells present after fermentation - for 4-6 months. This develops a mid-palate weight that adds to the wine's intense fruit characters. Paired with low grape yields for more concentration, and careful early-morning picking and pressing to preserve the Marlborough freshness, this is as unique and quality driven wine that we are excited to share with you.
