'During the Great Depression, Aldo Biale began selling eggs, walnuts and vegetables in the Napa Valley. Orders came via the party line phone, which could be eavesdropped on by nosy neighbors. A "Black Chicken" became the code for a jug Aldo's secret Zinfandel from the barrels in the barn.
