Sforzato is red wine made in the appasimento method in the region of Lombardy, Northern Italy. Nebbiolo grapes (called Chiavannasca in this region) are picked late and left to dry over the winter. In this extreme Alpine region, cool breezes from Lake Como wash over the grapes as they dry & flavors concentrate. The wine is then fermented to DRY, making a full bodied and rich wine. This is the amarone style - for amarone lovers, you can expect this iteration to be less rich, but more elegant. Take that as you will - we are excited for you to try for yourself!

From the high-altitude slopes of Valtellina (located in Northern Lombard) a narrow strip of land is home to a unique growing region. Here, Nebbiolo ripens under the intense sun and creates an Alpine expression of the grape. Sforzato di Valtellina DOCG refers to a specific style of winemaking, in which the grapes are dried before fermentation (like Amarone). This concentrates the flavor and power of the wine, making a one-of-a-kind expression of Nebbiolo. Next time you have a rich dinner planned, you'll want this on the table!
