Founded in 2003 and based in Carnuntum in eastern Austria, Johannes Trapl farms about 15 hectares of organically and biodynamically managed vineyards that sit between the Danube River and the Carpathian foothills.

With a cult following, TRAPL emphasizes low yields, hand harvesting, and biodiversity. Fermentations are carried out with native yeasts, often with partial whole clusters, and the wines are aged in stainless steel or large neutral barrels with minimal intervention.

This Blaufrankish is a step up from the introductory Blaufrankish wine we have carried in the store for the last 2 years. It is a single vineyard bottling from the Karpatenschierer vineyard.

Tart red cherry, sour plum, and dried cranberry, followed by notes of crushed stone, subtle herbal tones, and a faint savory edge.
